Department of Defense Education Activity

Principal's Corner

Welcome Dragons!

On behalf of the teachers and staff, I welcome all of you to Spangdahlem Elementary School, home of the Spangdahlem Dragons!

It is our pleasure to welcome students, parents and all stakeholders to our children centered and family friendly school where we believe it is our extreme privilege to work with military and military connected kiddos. We warmly accept the responsibility to "educate, engage and empower" all of our students to achieve their highest potential in all academic areas as they develop and become responsible citizens and lifelong learners. We welcome all students to join us.

We have a strong sense of pride for our school and provide a curriculum that not only aligns to the DoDEA standards, but is also relevant and rigorous enough to prepare our students for the 21st century. At Spangdahlem Elementary School, we provide a safe, positive, caring learning environment where students are given ample opportunities to reach their potential.

The teachers, staff, and I follow the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Curriculum standards and programs and we are aligned with The Blueprint for Continuous Improvement....DODEA's strategic plan. We work collaboratively with the children, parents and the community through the Spangdahlem PTSA, the Continuous School Improvement Team (CSI), the School Advisory Committee (SAC) and the Eifel School Advisory Board (ESAB). We also offer activities like quarterly meetings with the Spang Complex principals, community nights, and other school events to support our students and families. We are committed to developing the 'whole child' which includes the intellectual, social, emotional, physical, and cultural growth of the child.

With a diverse student population, SpangES has an extensive cadre of staffing, student support services, and after-school clubs to support and engage learners. SpangES staff members are trained to provide services to preschoolers, students with unique learning needs, students whose native language is other than English, advanced academic program students, and families at-risk or in crisis. Our students are provided with specialized instruction in Art, Music, PE, and the German culture, history, and language.

We robustly believe that "Together WE are Strong" and that nurturing vibrant, viable, productive relationships with parents, the community and cooperating partners is a must. Effective Schools Research shows that there is a strong connection between volunteer support & parent involvement and student success. A partnership between school, home, and cooperating partners is paramount to student success. We invite and strongly endorse parental and community collaboration to create a positive school and home-learning environment. Please contact any of our administrative team if you have questions, concerns, or positives to share.

Please take time to examine our school website, "Like Us" on Facebook, review our parent-student handbook, and/or contact us. Once your child is enrolled, I encourage you to fill out a volunteer packet and join our award winning PTSA. I also invite you to apply with DoDEA as a substitute teacher. Applications are available online at www.usajobs.gov or stop by our admin offices for information. Please note that the process for subbing can take time, so the earlier you apply, the better.

Welcome to Spangdahlem Elementary School. The entire Dragon Nation Team and I look forward to working with all of you. Spangdahlem Elementary School is the place with "Children are at the Heart of ALL WE DO!!!" Go Dragons!!!
