DoDEA Pacific Announces Pacific South District (Okinawa) Acting Superintendent, Acting Community Superintendent

Okinawa, Japan —
Ms. Lois Rapp, DoDEA Pacific Director for Student Excellence, is pleased to appoint Dr. Jacqueline Ferguson as Acting Superintendent of the Pacific South District effective Dec. 18, following the retirement of Mr. Jim Journey. Dr. Ferguson currently serves as Pacific South Community Superintendent. The region is currently in the process of selecting a permanent replacement for Mr. Journey.
Ms. Kathleen Smith, Professional Practice and Improvement Specialist with the DoDEA Pacific Center for Instructional Leadership, will serve as Acting Community Superintendent.
“Dr. Ferguson and Ms. Smith bring a wealth of knowledge and educational leadership experience to their respective roles as acting superintendent and acting community superintendent,” Ms. Rapp said.
Dr. Ferguson’s educational career spans more than 20 years and includes service as a K-12 teacher and principal in Japan and Germany. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, a Master of Educational Administration, and a doctorate in Curriculum, Supervision and Instruction.
Ms. Smith’s 22-year career in education includes serving as a teacher, reading specialist, elementary English/Language Arts Instructional Support Specialist, assistant principal and principal in Germany, mainland Japan, Okinawa, and Fort Bragg, NC. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Francis Marion University and a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from University of Phoenix.
