Ryan Smith

Camp Lejeune, NC —

Dr. Donato Cuadrado, the Department of Defense Education Activity mid-Atlantic district superintendent, is pleased to announce Ryan Smith as the new community superintendent for Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Smith will assume his duties in September.

“Ryan Smith’s collaborative leadership approach will benefit the Camp Lejeune community. Mr. Smith has proven to be an effective and compassionate leader both in the Marine Corps and as an educator in DoDEA. He is passionate about serving military-connected kids,” said Dr. Cuadrado. “As a former Marine, Ryan understands the Marine culture. He and his wife are committed to the service of the DODEA Camp Lejeune Community.”

About Ryan Smith
Ryan Smith comes to Camp Lejeune from Fort Jackson, South Carolina where he served as the principal at C.C. Pinckney Elementary School. He is a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps in which he served as a nuclear biological chemical defense specialist for six years. After being honorably discharged, he began his education by attending SUNY Brockport, where he received his bachelor’s degree. It is there he met his wife of 10 years, Tracy, with whom he has three sons: Logan, Henry and Derek.

Smith began his teaching career in the northernmost borough of New York City, the Bronx, at Harriet Tubman Charter School as a physical education and health teacher. While teaching at the school, he received his master’s degree from Canisius College in athletic administration. He then received a degree in educational leadership from Liberty University.

In 2012, Smith began serving military families at DoDEA’s Maxwell Elementary and Middle School at Maxwell Air Force Base. While at Maxwell, he served on the continuous school improvement team and was instrumental in starting the middle school athletics program. He then went on to serve as the interim assistant principal at Fort Rucker Elementary School and Primary School, assistant principal at Mahaffey Middle School, and principal at C.C. Pinckney Elementary School.

Smith looks forward to serving the community of Camp Lejeune and is committed to the continual success of Camp Lejeune schools.
