The Department of Defense Education Activity is pleased to announce the 2020 recipients of the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) Program for the K-6th grade teachers of science and mathematics: Lachanda Garrison, Bahrain Elementary School, and Antoine Sharpe, Humphreys Middle School.
2022 Teacher of the Year - Ms. Rachel Guilfoyle is a 5th grade teacher and teacher leader at Daegu Elementary School. She currently serves as co-chair of the school’s SQF Team, Fifth Grade Level Chair, and is a member of the Advanced Education/Gifted Committee. She has taught in DoDEA for 12 years in South Korea.
2021 Teacher of the Year - Lachanda Garrison teaches 2nd grade at Bahrain Elementary School in Manama, Bahrain. She has 13 years of experience teaching with DoDEA, including 1st and 3rd grades, multi-age grades, and as an instructional coach in elementary mathematics and literacy.
The Educator of Promise Award was created by the DoDEA Director to honor the legacy and service of retired senior leader and long- time educator, Dr. Linda L. Curtis. The award was created in 2019 to recognize DoDEA educators with less than 3 years of teaching experience with DoDEA who demonstrate teacher leadership qualities. Only one Educator of Promise will be the recipient each school year.

2020 Teacher of the Year - Antoine Sharpe, Pacific West District. he is teaching seventh-grade math at Humphreys Middle School in South Korea for DoDEA.
The new Multidimensional Administrator Performance Appraisal (MAPA) evaluation system for principals and assistant principals is being implemented throughout DoDEA. The MAPA is designed to improve practices in instructional leadership that enhance student achievement and also to recognize effective practices currently in place.
