Security Management Division

Mission Statement

The mission of the Security Management Division is to establish and maintain various security programs designed to promote secure work and learning environments for DoDEA students, staff and visitors. SMD strives to meet current and emerging threats to our mission head on, through the prudent application of programmatic policies, introduction of achievable operational procedures, and continues outreach with the military commands, host installation counterparts, and our customers.

One of the DoDEA’s primary goals is to keep ensure a safe and secure environment that is conducive to learning and student achievement. We continually work with local military and civilian health, safety, and emergency personnel leaders to ensure coordinated responses to potential threats. We also drill for emergency situations and then review and revise plans as needed.

Operations Security

Operations Security, or OPSEC, is the process by which we protect unclassified information that can be used against us. OPSEC challenges us to look at ourselves through the eyes of an adversary (individuals, groups, countries, organizations). Essentially, anyone who can harm people, resources, or mission is an adversary.

The bottom line is that we can be our own worst enemy.
