Updated DoD Travel Guidance for Student Athletes and Event Participants
April 6, 2022
Dear DoDEA-Europe Families and Staff,
We recently received updated Department of Defense (DoD) guidance that will now allow all student athletes and event participants (where Host Nation and local command regulations allow) to travel on official DoDEA-provided vehicles to and from events, regardless of vaccination status. Mask use on DoDEA vehicles will be optional at most locations as determined by the new DoD guidance and the installation command protocols, which are based on local Health Protection Condition (HPCON) levels.
In order to ensure opportunity to as many students as possible, the Exception to Policy (ETP) established in January 2022, allowing families to provide their own means of transportation to and from events, will continue. Decisions regarding travel for specific events will continue to be determined on a case-by-case basis, taking into account local Host Nation requirements and military command/public health guidance.
I would also like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that it is as important as ever to observe the health and safety guidelines we have established and implemented this year. At the start of the school year, we all signed a 'DoDEA COVID-19 Pre-screening Protocol and Acknowledgement' form, and it is critical that we remain vigilant regarding these protocols. We will continue to work closely with our military partners to monitor the health situation in our communities and will make all decisions with the health of our students, staff and schools as our top priority.
We appreciate everyone's support and patience during this uniquely challenging time. Information regarding DoDEA's COVID Operations Guidelines and Protocols may be found at: https://www.dodea.edu/covid-operations.cfm
Sincerely,
Dr. Charles Kelker
DoDEA-Europe Chief of Staff
