Melendez named principal of Barkley Elementary School

Mr. Hugh McKinnon, Community Superintendent for Fort Campbell Schools, is pleased to announce effective June 18, Ms. Nicole Melendez will become the new principal of Barkley Elementary School.

"Ms. Melendez is an experienced educator who believes in helping all students reach their greatest potential, which makes her a perfect addition to the Fort Campbell Community. Her extensive experience in supporting military-connected students and providing school-level leadership are the right combination to push Barkley Elementary School to the highest level of performance," McKinnon said.

Before serving as the acting principal at Barkley Elementary School Melendez worked as an administrator in the Southeast District and a teacher in the Mid-Atlantic District since joining DoDEA in 2011. Since 2006, she has been a public-school educator in Pennsylvania and North Carolina.

Melendez has a Bachelor of Education with an Early Childhood/Urban Education specialization from Millersville University, a Master of Clinical Counseling from Alvernia University, and a Master of Educational Leadership from Gardner-Webb University. She is currently working on her doctorate at Liberty University.

Melendez childhood dream was to be a teacher. She is grateful for the Barkley Community's trust and looks forward to the continued partnership.
