Ms. Amy Phillips Selected as Assistant Principal Sollars Elementary School

Yokota, Japan —
Dr. Judith Allen, DoDEA Pacific East District Superintendent, is pleased to announce the selection of Ms. Amy Phillips as assistant principal of Sollars Elementary School, located at Misawa Air Base, Misawa, Japan.
A native of Annona, Texas, Ms. Phillips grew up in a farming and ranching community of fewer than 500 people. The lessons learned in that small town will always influence who she is and the work she does. She experienced the power of what a few people can do when they come together to make things happen for families, so this means that Ms. Phillips never misses the chance to work side-by-side with parents, teachers, and the community to find creative, engaging, and meaningful learning opportunities for every student. She knows big things happen when even just a few people work together.
Ms. Phillips began her journey to become an educator during her sophomore year of high school. She was chosen to serve as the county library’s summer program leader, and the experience of working with children as they found a love for books and reading became her passion. From that foundational opportunity, Ms. Phillips knew teaching was her calling, and she went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in English with teaching credentials from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas. After a decade serving in the classroom, she went on to earn a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with principal credentials from The University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. Currently, she is pursuing a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Oklahoma.
During her 25-year career Ms. Phillips has held various teaching, district support, and campus leadership roles in Dallas ISD, Lewisville ISD, and, most recently, DoDEA. After joining DoDEA in 2020, Ms. Phillips has served on Guam as an Instructional Support Specialist for English and Social Studies and as an English teacher/acting administrator for Guam High School. Ms. Phillips is very excited to have this new opportunity to join the Sollars Elementary family, and she is eager to learn from and with each and every Dragon!
When not working or enjoying after school programs, Ms. Phillips is an avid crafter and reader who loves to create and learn, and she is always up to read, bake, grow, paint, or sew something.
