Elementary School Positions
(Grades PK-6)
All educators applying for elementary classroom teaching positions must possess 24 semester hours of elementary education course work, inclusive of the required elementary methods. No second teacher category is required, except where noted. The minimum qualification standards are detailed in each position description.
Middle School Positions
(Grades 6-8)Â
Educators applying to DoDEA Middle School Positions, must meet the minimum education preparation requirements and qualification standards in the specific middle school content areas as detailed in each position description.
Secondary School Positions (Grades 9-12)
Educators applying to DoDEA Secondary School Positions, must meet the minimum education preparation requirements and qualification standards in the specific secondary school content areas as detailed in each position description.Â
0090 - Teacher, Prekindergarten (ECE)
A major in early childhood education or a degree in elementary education with 24 semester hours in early childhood education is required. The 24 semester hours must be in course description or title containing early childhood, kindergarten, or prekindergarten training. Coursework in methods of teaching emerging literacy and methods of teaching mathematics for early childhood, kindergarten, or prekindergarten is required. An unencumbered professional teaching license in early childhood or its state equivalent will be considered to have fulfilled these requirements.
0095 - Teacher, Kindergarten (ECE)
A major in early childhood education or a degree in elementary education with 24 semester hours in early childhood education is required. The 24 semester hours must be in the course description or title containing early childhood, kindergarten, or pre-kindergarten training. Coursework in methods of teaching emerging literacy and methods of teaching mathematics for early childhood, kindergarten, or pre-kindergarten is required. Two years of full-time experience teaching pre-kindergarten or kindergarten may be substituted for 3 semester hours of the required early childhood education coursework.
0096 - Teacher, Kindergarten, Language Immersion (ECE)
Applicants must meet the educational requirements for the applicable grade level. Applicants must provide proof of near native proficiency to instruct languages in German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, or Korean. The proof of near native proficiency is evidenced by submitting a rating of an "Advanced High" or "Superior" rating from the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, Inc. (ACTFL).
0101-0103 - Teacher, Grades 1-3 (ES)
Coursework must include methods of teaching reading, math, language arts, and science. Note: in addition, a methods course or 1 year teaching experience in art, music, or physical education in the elementary school is required. Two years elementary classroom experience is desired. All applicants must have completed a minimum of 3 semester hours containing early childhood education if reassignment to lower elementary grades 1-3 becomes necessary for continuous employment.
0104-0106 - Teacher, Grades 4-6 (ES)
Coursework must include methods of teaching reading, math, language arts, and science. Note: in addition, a methods course or 1 year teaching experience in art, music, or physical education in the elementary school is required. Two years elementary classroom experience is desired. All applicants must have completed a minimum of 3 semester hours containing early childhood education if reassignment to lower elementary grades 1-3 becomes necessary for continuous employment.
0107-0108 - Teacher, Grades 7-8 (ES)
Coursework must include methods of teaching reading, math, language arts, and science. 0109 - Teacher, Compensatory Education Reading (ES)
The applicant seeking an endorsement in Compensatory Education, Reading, shall fulfill all the requirements for an endorsement in elementary education and have a minimum of 24 semester hours of coursework in reading/language arts. Two years elementary classroom experience is desired.
0110 - Teacher, Compensatory Education, Mathematics (ES)
The applicant seeking an endorsement in Compensatory Education, Mathematics, shall fulfill all the requirements for an endorsement in elementary education and have a minimum of 15 semester hours of coursework in mathematics. Only math credits earned from a Mathematics Department are acceptable. Two years elementary classroom experience is desired.
0148 - Teacher, Grades 1-3, Language Immersion (ES)

0150 - Teacher, Art (ES)
A major in art or a minimum of 24 semester hours in art is required. Coursework must include a methods course in teaching art at the elementary level and at least one course each in drawing, painting, and art history/art appreciation. A minimum of 9 upper level semester hours in art is required.
0151 - Teacher, Music (ES)
A major in music or a minimum of 24 semester hours in music is required. Coursework must include a methods course in teaching music at the elementary level. A minimum of 9 upper level semester hours in music is required.
0155 - Teacher, Physical Education (ES)
A major in physical education or a minimum of 24 semester hours in physical education. Coursework must include a methods course in teaching physical education at the elementary level. A minimum of 9 upper level semester hours in physical education is required.
0210 - Teacher, English (MS)
A minimum of 24 semester hours in English/Language Arts is required. Course work must include a course in each English literature, American literature, composition (writing process). A minimum of 9 semester hours of upper level coursework in English is required.
0211 - Teacher, Speech (MS)
A minimum of 24 semester hours in speech and dramatic arts or a minimum of 9 semester hours in speech plus sufficient additional course work in English to total at least 24 semester hours is required. A minimum of 9 semester hours of upper level course work in the field of English, communication arts, or speech is required.
0212 - Teacher, Journalism (MS)
A minimum of 24 semester hours in journalism or a minimum of 9 semester hours in journalism plus sufficient additional course work in related fields such as communication, speech, or English to total at least 24 semester hours is required. A minimum of 9 semester hours of upper level course work in the field of English, communication arts, speech, or journalism is required.
0220 - Teacher, Social Studies (MS)
A minimum of 24 semester hours in social studies. Course work must include at least one course each in U.S. history, world history, political science, and geography. A minimum of 9 upper level semester hours in social studies is required.
0230 - Teacher, General Science (MS)
A minimum of 24 semester hours in the field of general science to include a minimum of 9 semester hours of upper-level science courses is required. Course work must include one course in each of the following: life science, earth science, and physical science.
0234 - Teacher, Health (MS)
A major in health or a minimum of 24 semester hours in specific health related course work. Course work must include a minimum of 9 semester hours of upper level health courses.
0240 - Teacher, Mathematics (MS)
A minimum of 24 semester hours with a minimum of 9 semester hours in upper level course work in mathematics is required. Course work must be in at least 3 of the following content areas: Algebra, Calculus, Geometry, Methods of teaching Mathematics, or History of Mathematics. Only mathematics credits obtained directly from a mathematics or mathematics education department will be accepted.
