The AVID Elective Student

The weekly structure for the AVID Elective is as follows:

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday
AVID Curriculum AVID Tutorials AVID Curriculum AVID Tutorials Framework Fridays

On Mondays and Wednesdays, AVID Elective students engage in the AVID Curriculum, which focuses on building essential skills such as writing, inquiry, collaboration, and reading — commonly known as WICOR strategies.

Students join small group tutorials every Tuesday and Thursday to get extra support in their most challenging classes. With help from trained tutors, they learn how to ask the right questions, systematically think through problems, and build their confidence — all while becoming more independent learners.

On Fridays, AVID students take part in college and career exploration as well as leadership activities that help them plan for the future and grow as leaders

AVID Grade Level Standards

AVID Essential Skills — Student Agency, Rigorous Opportunity Preparedness, and Opportunity Knowledge — are designed to be used in conjunction with locally defined content standards and college and career readiness standards. These skills are further articulated for the AVID Elective class via the AVID Elective Grade-Level standards which can be found on the myAVID website.
