Advanced Placement Exams in DoDEA
Advanced Placement Program
AP Exams are standardized exams designed to measure how well students mastered the content and skills of a specific AP course. Most AP courses have an end-of-year digital exam, but a few courses are still being migrated from paper pencil to digital and some courses have different ways to assess what students have learned--for example, AP Art and Design students submit a portfolio of work for scoring.
All DoDEA Advanced Placement (AP) courses are approved by College Board's curriculum requirements via the AP course audit designation. AP courses are designed to meet the same college-level criteria across all high schools. Curricular requirements represent the core elements of the AP courses and are derived from the College Board's AP course descriptions which offers college-level curricula and examinations to high school students. All DoDEA AP teachers have approved AP course audits allowing them to teach the core College Board AP course/class curricula requirements.
Student Participation
All high school students enrolled in an AP course are encouraged to take the corresponding AP Exam. AP exams are administered each year in May.
- AP Exam Only Request - High school students not currently enrolled in a DoDEA AP course(s) who wish to take the regularly scheduled AP Exam and are eligible for tuition-free enrollment in a DoDEA school should have their parent/sponsor contact the school to submit a written request to the principal.
- Late AP Exam Request - If a high school student has an unusual circumstance that prevents them from participating during the regularly scheduled AP Exam, the parent/sponsor must submit a written request to the principal for Late AP Exam approval.
