As a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist for the Americas Southeast (SE) District located in Ft. Benning, GA, Ms. Dawn Douglas accomplished a myriad of highly successful key initiatives this quarter to include serving as the district’s subject matter expert for COVID-19 responses, initiating a comprehensive district-wide risk assessment program which covered school related events and graduation ceremonies taking place in the COVID-19 environment, and developing individual risk assessments for each district high school graduation event, ensuring safe and incident free events.

Ms. Douglas facilitated the successful soft-start and launch of the revised Accident Injury Report (AIR) system, all while balancing her normal workload during the on-going COVID-19 crisis.  She provided input, leadership, and training on the successful agency launch of AIRs v2.0 starting with the Southeast (SE) District and then successfully worldwide.

During this time, Ms. Douglas was selected as keynote presenter at the SE District Summer Principal Virtual Conference as a part of the Leadership and Management session.  Ms. Douglas was lauded by principals and leaders alike for developing a highly informative and easy to understand briefing and Q&A session on the newly launched AIR system.

Given Ms. Douglas’ expertise in Safety and Occupational Health, she was appointed by the SE District Chief of Staff (CoS) to direct and oversee all COVID-19 reporting, and developed a tracking form to facilitate rapid reporting of potential COVID-19 cases.  The SE District was happy to report there were no mishaps or COVID-19 related issues reported at any SE District events/graduations, which is a direct reflection of Ms. Douglas’ achievements towards prioritizing and supporting the safety and health of DoDEA students and staff.

In addition to being an outstanding safety professional, Ms. Douglas' positive attitude contributes greatly to the overall success of the DoDEA Safety and Occupational Health program. She excels under pressure and always manages to resolve stressful situations in a fair and productive manner.

Accordingly, Ms. Douglas is most deserving of this award, as her sustained excellence, attentiveness and commitment to the DoDEA mission bring great credit upon herself, DoDEA, and the Department of Defense.
