Ms. Nailani Babauta is the administrative assistant in the Pacific South District Superintendent's office. She took the lead in seamlessly transitioning new employees into the Pacific South District, to include regional employees, during this time. Ms. Babauta worked closely with the six reception coordinators in the district and managed the travel schedules for incoming employees and their families. This included partnering with the staff in the Pacific East District to manage the double restriction-of-movement (ROM) situations that employees were in. This included arranging for support for those in transit. During this time, Ms. Babauta developed relationships and partnerships with the military community on Yokota Air Base, Kadena Air Base, and Camp Foster.

As a part of the process, Ms. Babauta had to stay up to date with the ever-changing travel restrictions, ROM requirements, and expectations of the local military commands. The relationships she developed during this time were invaluable to getting the employees taken care of. Her work, which exceeded her normal position expectations, included support of travel arrangements, hotel reservations, flight reservations on the Patriot Express, and contingency housing arrangements for all new employees that came into Pacific South from the period of 01-July-2020 through the hiring season. As a result of her outstanding organizational skills, all new employees transitioned successfully into the area and into their professional responsibilities without interruption. Ms. Babauta arranged for COVID testing for all new-comers, along with maintaining travel records for the travelers to include communication with the USFJ command.

The time requirements for the successful transition of employees required Ms. Babauta to be flexible with her time, as much of the work was completed outside of the traditional work hours. Ms. Babauta also ensured she was available to meet with the reception coordinators whenever needed to access the superintendent's office, district vehicles to support transportation, or administrative support.

Accordingly, Ms. Babauta is most deserving of this award, as her sustained excellence, attentiveness and commitment to the DoDEA mission bring great credit upon herself, DoDEA, and the Department of Defense.
